Recycler Check List
To find the recycler that fits your needs you’ll need to be armed with the following information. How much recyclable paper your company is generating and what type of service you will need from your recycler.

___   Conduct a Waste Audit.

Use the following formula to estimate how much recyclable paper your company is generating.

 # of employees x 0.6*  = Lbs. of high grade paper per day
(* 0.6 is an average and will differ depending on the industry your business is in.)

To get the volume per month use the following formula:

Lbs. of high grade paper per day x  5  x  4.25  = Lbs. per month

An office with 250 employees would have an estimated 3187.5 Lbs. per month.

___   Conduct a Recycler Survey. The following factors should be considered:

  • What commodities will the recycler accept?
What grades of paper are accepted? Get specific descriptions of grades of paper. What exactly is “white” or “mixed” paper?
    Are aluminum cans collected?

  • What type of service will the vendor provide?
What type of service do you need?

___   Will the recycler pick up and is there a charge to do that?

___   Will they offer inside collection or only outside pick up?

___   Will they provide bulk collection containers?

___   What price the recycler is currently offering?
